Outstanding dinner on Saturday night. Our group of four golfers (using the term golfers loosely), arrived about 7pm and decided to enjoy a cocktail on their outside patio, it is one of the best views on the Lake. Service was quick and the drinks were perfectly prepared. Our cocktail server mentioned that the restaurant was starting to fill up and so we drank up and got seated immediately. We ordered three appetizers, the must have onion rings, hojo's fried clam strips and the calamari steak. All three were terrific. For our entree', three ordered the Dover Sole and one, the Steak and Lobster stack. The three of us were extremely satisfied with the table-side de-boning of the fish. The Steak Stack was enjoyed, but it was somewhat over-powered by the beef reduction sauce. In between the appetizers and the entrée we were served a family styled salad with an amazing selection of chopped vegetables and bean sprouts. Their house dressing is so good it is hard to describe the flavor profile, other than, simply amazing. All dinners were also served with broccoli hollandaise. This is a must visit restaurant while at the Lake.

This place has seen better times. Walking into the front door you're greeted with a very off putting order which carries into the dining room. Bad. We went to have cocktails and appetizers on their pool patio outdoor space which is excellent but they do not serve any appetizers outside. Cocktails only. WRONG POLICY! We were the ONLY customers outside and perhaps we now know why. We haven't been to The Blue Heron in quite some time. It will be even longer before we return. There are many choices to enjoy a lake view where you are able to enjoy cocktails and appetizers outside with a fine lake view. Skip the Blue Herron.

Love to eat here, the food has always been good and definitely a unique take on dining. Had the batter-fried lobster which practically melts in your mouth. I always take home some of their secret recipe salad dressing (love it) and wish they would sell their croutons also. Our server however was not familiar with any of the wines we asked about, had to send the person who actually orders their wines to answer a question. I also love the quirky decor and the view. On our last visit however, did notice that slightly icky smell as you enter and hope they take care of that soon. Doesn't exactly whet the appetite.

This restaurant used to be THE place at the lake, unfortunately it is now just an overpriced has been. We waited for over an hour to have our order taken and then another 90 minutes to get it. The food was nothing worth noting and the service was worse. It's time to renovate this classic both literally and figuratively.

New on the menu this year is the gazpacho. Wonderful. Fresh and flavorful. For appetizer I had the lobster jewels with apricot sauce, Jim the escargot. Again everything was great Entrees were smoked Cornish hen for me, where else can you get smoked Cornish hen? Jim had seared scallops and a petite filet, and Dana had the pork loin with a pomegranate sauce and the famous whipped potatoes. Yum. Vegetable of the day was steamed cauliflower with hollandaise sauce. Not overcooked. Perfect. For dessert we had lavender creme brûlée with sugar carmalized table side and vaculator coffee also prepared table side. What an experience Dining at the heron is always a pleasure.

I love the Blue Heron! Mr. Boer is a most accommodating & friendly owner! Their food is bar none the best at the lake! Being from CA I was very relieved to find a TRUE fine dining establishment! Our fav place!!! I love the Russian King Crab!

We decided to celebrate our 16 year anniversary at the BH. We've eaten here maybe 12 times over the last 20 years, Although until last nights dinner it's probably been 8 years since we were there. We arrived around 7:30 had our two kids 11 and 13 and were told to go outside and wait for a table. It was nice with a spectacular view but the pool was dirty the grass needs some weed killer along with clippings being picked up and some fresh paint on the lattice below the decks. We were finally sat in the dining room my wife and I had the fried lobster, my son ha the Russian crab legs and my daughter the medallions. (All around 50.00/ea plate). The lobster hasn't changed in 20 years it's fabulous! My sons crab legs were guillotined into 1" pcs along with tendons. So every bite was chewy. The waitress was very unfriendly and never even asked how we were doing or how dinner was. The place needs to be updated along with all the workers attitudes. Very pricey for the service and food received. We'll not hurry back.

I've been fortunate to dine at the Blue Heron probably eight times and each time my experience has been the same -- perfect! Every detail is done with such care. Onion rings that are the best on the planet. Salad with homemade dressings and homemade croutons that are to die for. Filet that I swear I could cut with a spoon, and cheesecake that borders between delicious and heavenly.

I've been coming to the lake for many years and finally decided to try this place with my wife of a little over a year as a nice date night out down here. All and all the place is kind of strange that everything is blue. The place needs an update in general. The food was really good and served old school style of the 1960s. If the place wasn't so blue you'd almost see the cast of Mad Men here. Tr only issue really is the price. My wife didn't order soup because adding that on top of the meal was too much, even though I told here to get it. Great woman I have. Not sure if would eat here again but I guess it was worth the try just to see and eat at a place I have passed many times over years. The home made salad dressing was fantastic. My steak was very good as well, but for $47, I would rather have had a Capitol Grill steak or a Ruth Chris steak.

Overpriced, terrible food, 1950's decor (not on purpose). Needs to be completely redone. First time to try it, last time to try it. Bland food, pompous wait staff. Told us they aren't allowed to talk about the wine menu and gave us a chopping knife from wal-mart as a steak knife, and that was for veal! Bad experience all around. Highly recommend going somewhere else.

Fantastic place to meet people and a wonderful dining experience. Uniquely and extraordinary menu. Try the house cognac and the fabulous Vaculator coffee. And remember it's the home of the original better fried lobster!

We had been a bit leery about returning to Blue Heron after seeing some mixed reviews, but we were very glad we did. We all had the batter-fried lobster - and it was cooked perfectly.... crunchy on the outside but tender and moist inside. We had been to JJ's the prior week - and we felt the lobster was cooked even better at Blue Heron. Our waiter was very attentive - and everything else we had was great.

As hard as they try (which isn't TOO hard), I wouldn't call this "fine" dining after one has truly had fine dining. But for the Lake, I suppose that's all they have. It took 1 1/2 hrs for us to get our seafood orders ($50 a pop), while the locals who sit with the owner got theirs much faster. I guess their money is greener maybe? I told the owner that I thought their food was great, but that the length of time seemed way too long. He screamed at me that I must be used to eating at slop houses. And this coming from a guy who owns a restuarant at Lake Ozark where people are in jeans & shorts? Really? I've eaten in Paris at a 5-star, and the food came in 45 minutes. Really Hans?

I went there after a long day, and had already met up with friends and had dinner at another restuarant, when we decided to go for dessert we wanted to try Blue Heron, however, they would not serve us just dessert nor allow us to carry it out. VERY UNACCOMODATING! and snotty. I would say it is not worth all the hype

We come here to eat when we are here for the Shootout. Great food, good service. Reservations are a good idea.

House pinot nior was very good. The house salad was outstanding and the addition of roasted pine nuts was a plus. Bread with salad was not as good as in the past. Champaign poached lobster was perfect. Whipped potatoes were very good. Filet was cooked just right. Cheesecake was massive and had incredible flavor. While expensive...worth every penny...

I went here last night for the second time ever, hoping to get a better dining experience than the last. Didn't happen. The staff were unfriendly and not very attentive. I paid 50.00 for a filet that was maybe 3 ounces. The creme brûlée was cold, spread very thin, and had a bunch of sugar in the raw poured over the top. The waiter torched it, but that didn't help. My mother got the Dover sole which was very salty and fishy so she sent it back. They were not apologetic. When we got the bill, it reflected a mysterious $15 charge. Then we were told it was for the salad that came included with mom's fish. Since she had eaten some salad (which came in a bowl for the whole table), they charged her. Oh, I almost forgot... They push carts all over the dining room to serve and clear tables so you get to look at dirty dishes while you eat!

I love every single last thing about the Blue Heron! The views are perfect! Everything's just wonderful! I love the food. The drinks are really good and my favorite is the Shirley Temple! The lobster pouches are a must and you have to get the Trout Almandine or the Veal Morel!
